The Abeo Blast is a space for thought, reflection, and action. We curate and share ideas: ideas for professional growth, ideas for inspiration, ideas for celebration, ideas for collaboration, and ideas to connect us as humans.

Greetings,

The school year has launched and we’re into Fall. And with this comes set routines, strengthening relationships, shortened days, changing weather and hints of exhaustion. Caring for others and their needs can begin to take a toll.

Emotions are the most powerful force inside the workplace - as they are in every human endeavor.

They influence everything from leadership effectiveness to

building and maintaining complex relationships, from innovation to customer relations.

-Marc Brackett

Well-being (emotional, physical and mental) is a driver for having impact and sustaining progress as well as being a contributor to self and collective efficacy. “Our mental health and well-being is impacted by two factors: the stress we feel at home/on the job and the emotions we feel when we are going through stress” (P. DeWitt, 2022).

How are you incorporating self-care practices into your day so that your best self shows up for you, your students, and your school community?

In the famous words of RuPaul Charles, “If you can’t love yourself, how in the hell are you gonna love somebody else? Can I get an amen?”

Enjoy!

Podcast: How Do You Want to Feel?

Creating habits for self-care can feel daunting. To support you in this endeavor we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Tina H Boogren. Dr. Boogren has made educator well-being her life's work.  She is a fierce advocate for educators, an author of several books and an associate at Solution Tree and Marzano Resources.

She offers a weekly podcast where educators can dig into the important work of self-care via bite-size episodes. We suggest you check out “How Do You Want to Feel?” an 11-minute listening that launches you into the school year by revisiting, re-grounding, and reminding us of core habits and strategies that have proven to be essential when it comes to self-care.

  • How We Feel app

    • An App to support caring for self
