Meridian School District Bellingham, WA

Organizational Development

Our Essential Question: How does our system develop a strategic plan that promotes inclusive instructional practices, facilities, belonging, and prepares us for the growth of our district so each and every student has opportunities to excel?

This year-long endeavor was designed with community in mind. Meridian School District outgrew their former strategic plan and with the arrival of a new superintendent, embraced the opportunity to co-create a strategic plan with their community that better responded to the changing and growing clientele and the current educational landscape.

Meridian’s Strategic Planning Committee had representation from many roles within their community - parents, students, classified and certified staff, school and district administrators, and the greater community. The Committee met monthly to learn, collaborate and draft their current strategic plan starting with refreshing the district’s vision.

With inspiration from their new motto, learning thrives here, the new vision, value statements, outcomes and metrics, launched the Meridian SD Community into their 2023-2024 school year ready to implement their commitments.

“Authentic. Collaborative. Values-driven.”

“We found that in the year we spent together working on our new strategic plan we were able to coalesce the values we established early on and that set the tone for the rest of our work together. The team - representatives from across our district and community - came together quickly to have honest conversations about what was desired for all of our children and families. Abeo's facilitation and persistence in driving the momentum forward, while keeping everyone engaged, allowed for a process where everyone felt as though they were integral in the final product - that it was a true collaboration. That was the significant impact of Abeo's work with the Meridian School District.”
